I'm a slideshow! Scroll over the picture & click on the arrows to see more images from Flotsam.

Flotsam is property of David Wiesner & Clarion Books (a Houghton Mifflin Company imprint). This book is not pictured in its entirety.

Flotsam is a beautiful story about a boy who explores the beach and ocean with an underwater camera. The story is told only through illustrations.

Bakhtin would have loved the underwater mysteries the boy uncovers.

Some of these images are:

  • a robot fish

  • an octopus reading in his living room with his family

  • Turtles with shell buildings on their backs

Why do you think Bakhtin would have thought these are "carnivalesque" images?
